This is what I vaguely remember about CoD2. When you first install the game, you have to run multiplayer at least once before you patch it. All you have to do is open it up. Then you can quit it. Then you can run the patches.

I don't remember why this is, but I do remember having to do this myself. So you have to uninstall and start over.

Never had to do that....

nVidia graphics card? What driver version? There is a known problem with some recent drivers causing problems in CoD2, and UO.

Oh really, JK? You didn't have to do that? So because you didn't it is completely inconceivable that other people might have?

Cause what I just read, right now, is that on the first run of CoD2 it writes your config files, but there was an error in the patch where if you did not run CoD2 before patching there would be no config file and the patch wouldn't write one for you thus causing errors!

I know, inconceivable. It didn't happen to you!

I did restart the game and it seemed to work.  I do have a Nvidia card.  Works now.  Cheers to both.

Did I say it wasn't possible? No, just saying I never had to do that.

You can get off your high pedestal now.

Ok.  I have tried reinstalling CoD.  I keep getting this error.  I get it with CoD, with UO, with the patches and w/o the patches.  I have tried several fresh installs.  I have tried to run as an admin and in compatability mode all the way back to win 2000.  I cant get this crap to work.  Any ideas?  If none I cant play thur for Fudges UO night and I will not be happy.

I'm not sure how to fix this, but you should try to Google this error. I'm sure you aren't alone.

There is yet another invidia driver that doesnt work.  The most recent version 196.21 does work.  The previous one does not.
